What If? / Ooh Ooh

A 2 track funk single (6m 50s) — released February 17th 2014 on Breakin Bread

A midtempo vocal soul funk groover backed with a crazed Hammond breakbeat workout.

Following the success of their Get Lucky cover The Getup are ready to launch their new album with their fourth single for Breakin Bread. This will underpin their support with soul funk lovers from JTQ aficionados to students hearing the JB's for the first time

Side A – What If?
The Getup are more than your average Hammond Funk outfit and this track proves it. A bubbling bass line kicks the track into a killer up tempo funk groove, having you reaching for the volume knob to crank it up as the first verse bursts out. The track takes on a whole new dimension as the chorus reveals a four-on-the-floor solid dance groove, with Jamiroqui-esque tasty chord changes, and then the horns stab us back into the next verse. A percussive, reverberant Hammond solo takes us into a drum break that is DJ and sampler's heaven, before the tunes rounds out with a double chorus and ends on more punchy stabs……. a midtempo vocal workout showcasing the sheer musicality of the band…….funk of the highest order!

Side B – Ooh Ooh!

From the sublime to the mental, the B side is a straight up Hammond wig out! An uptempo instrumental chock full of stunning crunchy drum breaks, the biting and growling Hammond, chukka-wakka guitar and hip heavy bass. This is how to showcase the unique sound of a swirling Hammond organ and its way inside The Getup's comfort zone. Its hard to pull a track like this together and make it work, here its played by a supertight band at the top of their game who know exactly what they are doing. DJs watch out, this is dancefloor mayhem!

The Getup album "Straight From The Hob" will be out in early April

True heavyweights in the Hammond Funk category, The Getup are fast establishing a reputation for irresistible grooves, infectious melodies and energetic performances that have been shaking dance floors since 2004. They came to our attention due to a stunning set a two years ago at Breakin Bread's residency at The Blues Kitchen and we are proud to release their latest studio excursions.

The Getup sold out of their debut release, Getup & Groove (2007), within months and gained fans all over Europe. They released the follow-up album Life @ Cafe Eric (2008) to more critical acclaim and got a whole heap of live dates as a result. From major venues including theJazz Café, the legendary100 Club andSt Paul Soul Jazz Festival(France), these guys have played almost everywhere to enthusiastic audiences.

The Getup's unique sound can be attributed not only to their influences Booker T, Charles Earland, Eddie Russ and many of those rare Funk 45's from the 60s and 70s but also to the list of groups it's members have worked with, includingJames Taylor Quartet, The Brand New Heavies(Linda Muriel),Sir Joe Quarterman,Gizelle Smith, Paprika Soul, Paolo NegriandGene Drayton Unit.Add to this the band's dedication to an authentic, raw funk sound, favouring a REAL Hammond Organ, analogue recording equipment, sweltering vocals and hip horn arrangements, The Getup have found a sound that'll have you screaming for more.
