Back To Me/Bungles Twanger
A 2 track funk single (6m 5s) — released April 22nd 2013 on Breakin Bread
The Getup are back with their second single for Breakin Bread. Uptempo femme funk on the a side, perfect dancefloor business. On the flip the boys indulge themselves with a Hammond Funk workout of the old Rainbow TV theme!
Side A – Back To Me
As soon as that guitar kicks in on the A side we know we're on The Getup's high energy home turf and, sure enough, what follows is a three and half minute 100mph horn laden ride thru Hammond Funk Mayhem. Sabina's vocals take the track into that female funk territory that keeps all the girls on the dancefloor.
Side B – Bungles Twanger
Flip over to the B side and anyone over the age of 30 will instantly recognise the childrens TV tune that's been given full on Getup treatment! 'Bungle's Twanger' really captures the essence of the band's roots... a full-on in-your-face stampede of Hammond, bass, drums, guitar and clav that is just short enough to sit perfectly in the sweet spot of the 7", but long enough to raise your adrenalin levels and make you want to immediately take it for a second spin! (if you're under 30, get on youtube!)
Background
True heavyweights in the Hammond Funk category, The Getup are fast establishing a reputation for irresistible grooves, infectious melodies and energetic performances that have been shaking dance floors since 2004. They came to our attention due to a stunning set a few months ago at Breakin Bread's residency at The Blues Kitchen and we are proud to release their latest studio excursions.
The Getup sold out of their debut release, Getup & Groove (2007), within months and gained fans all over Europe. They released the follow-up album Life @ Cafe Eric (2008) to more critical acclaim and got a whole heap of live dates as a result. From major venues including theJazz Café, the legendary100 Club andSt Paul Soul Jazz Festival(France), these guys have played almost everywhere to enthusiastic audiences.
The Getup's unique sound can be attributed not only to their influences Booker T, Charles Earland, Eddie Russ and many of those rare Funk 45's from the 60s and 70s but also to the list of groups it's members have worked with, includingJames Taylor Quartet, The Brand New Heavies(Linda Muriel),Sir Joe Quarterman,Gizelle Smith, Paprika Soul, Paolo NegriandGene Drayton Unit.Add to this the band's dedication to an authentic, raw funk sound, favouring a REAL Hammond Organ, analogue recording equipment, sweltering vocals and hip horn arrangements, The Getup have found a sound that'll have you screaming for more.
