(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay / The Night That Stole My Mind
A 2 track soul single (7m 43s) — released November 14th 2011 on Breakin Bread
The South West's answer to Cut Chemist is back with a different sound. On the A side he's taken a classic soul track and brought it right up to date whilst on the flipside he gives us another of his signature sound uptempo breakbeat with a touch of added soul.
Following his debut album "Fallen On Def Ears" released in late 2009 Para has been working hard on his next album. His debut was a breakbeat heavy trip into new school funk. The follow up is heading deeper into soul territory as Para's sound matures.
('Sittin On') he Dock Of The Bay
This track came about after Para happened across a small bar pretty much empty aside from a man in the corner singing and playing the piano . That guy was Badfoot Brown, A man with seriously deep soul and rawness to his vocals. After talking they agreed to work on a song together. Badfoot hails from San Francisco and naturally Sitting On the Dock of The Bay is one of his all time faves. He couldn't resist suggesting that he and Para take on Otis Redding's huge hit. Para employed his usual approach of heavy drums blended with funkier than thou bass and a bluesy, jazzy organ. All the elements plus Badfoot's vocal combine to breathe new life in what is a stone cold classic track. Now updated for 2012 and ideal for the dancefloor and soul boys alike. Swindon meets San Francisco!
The Night That Stole My Mind
The Night That Stole My Mind is a hard uptempo psychedelic track with bouncy drums, head-nodding riffs and nerve shredding guitar. The track features Para's favourite vocal partner Caitlin with her unique soul, jazz vocal style. For the first time Para has also brought in the legendary blues man Bob Bowles on lead guitar. What results is a breakbeat workout that's got a live analogue sound feel with fuzzboxes, live scratching, wah wah's and Para's unmistakable use of drums. Caitlin takes us thru the story of a night with an altered mind state that fits beautifully with the overall feel of the track.
